Tedious。 I did not grow to like any of the characters and found the overall story boring。 Only slightly interesting thing is that it takes place in Wales。
Jessie Anne,
took me forever to get into it, but some really good twists
Kathleen (bubblebathbookworm),
Rounded up to 3。5 I enjoyed this one。 The first half was a bit slow and there are a TON of characters to keep up with, but I enjoyed trying to figure out the twist。
Ttots,
Loved the twist。 Fun read over all。 4。8 stars
Katherine,
I really enjoyed this book, it kept me guessing right to the very end, and I did not guess who the culprit was。 I thought I had it figured out a dozen times, but I was wrong on every one。 I don’t usually enjoy when a book jumps around in time and incorporates so many points of view but it worked well for this book。I’m looking forward to checking out the next in the series when it comes out。

26 rounded up for Goodreads。This book sounds good and had the right idea but it was definitely a miss for me。 I almost DNF but I paid for the book so I made myself continue。 This book is longgggg and has way to many useless chapters in my opinion if it was cut down I could see it being better。 I love multiple POVs but there was so many it was hard to keep track and there was some that was just thrown in there and didn’t feel needed。 Not to mention the time line jump …it jumped all over the place 26 rounded up for Goodreads。This book sounds good and had the right idea but it was definitely a miss for me。 I almost DNF but I paid for the book so I made myself continue。 This book is longgggg and has way to many useless chapters in my opinion if it was cut down I could see it being better。 I love multiple POVs but there was so many it was hard to keep track and there was some that was just thrown in there and didn’t feel needed。 Not to mention the time line jump …it jumped all over the place so many times that it made my head spin。 In the last 3rd of the book it picked up by giving you two twists that I didn’t see coming but at that point I was so eager to finish that it didn’t have the impact of a huge jaw dropping twist。 To many red herrings for me。 I did love the locations and the feel of Christmas/ new years and the locations sounded beautiful! I have seen so many mixed reviews for this one。 I wanted to love it。 Did you ? 。。。more
Sydney,
This book was a good mystery book。 I enjoyed reading it and am satisfied with the ending。 I really liked the intertwining storylines of past and present。 I also really liked how every person in the story had a reason/motive for being the killer。 By the end, I had a feeling I knew who it was and I was pleasantly surprised when I was right! It doesn’t happen often hahaha! I wouldn’t classify it as a “great must-read mystery book” though, and there are several reasons for this。 One, there were way This book was a good mystery book。 I enjoyed reading it and am satisfied with the ending。 I really liked the intertwining storylines of past and present。 I also really liked how every person in the story had a reason/motive for being the killer。 By the end, I had a feeling I knew who it was and I was pleasantly surprised when I was right! I wouldn’t classify it as a “great must-read mystery book” though, and there are several reasons for this。 One, there were way too many perspectives in this book。 I think that every single character had a chapter from their perspective and between the past and present, it had me struggling to wrap my head around what was going on。 Two, there were some pieces of the story that went on just a little too long in some areas。 Three, there was a lot going on。 Between the character's conversations, all of the infidelity, and other things, there was just too much happening to make me feel like I was fully invested in the story。 I did need to know if I was right and that’s kind of what was keeping me hooked in。 The plot was a little too messy to be keeping my attention fully。 Overall, it was a good book with some twists that I didn’t expect, but it took its time to get there。 The story just was building and building and the last few chapters had me verbally saying, “well that wrapped up way too nicely。” But, there was a nice twist at the VERY end that had me cheering because I was right all along (not in EVERY aspect I should say, but I was still right…) ⚠️TW: death, murder, drug use, sexual assault, rape, pregnancy, cancer, infidelity 。。。more
Heather,
I'm a pretty big fan of previous books by Clare Mackintosh so I was very excited for a new release! I wanted to love this as much as I've loved some of her other books but I just couldn't get excited about it。 It was entertaining and it did picked up as it went along but it was just so-so for me this time。 I'd say it started as a 2 star read and ended up as a 3。5 star book overall。 I did like the twist at the end but I just didn't love the book all the way through。 Never fear, I'm still a fan an I'm a pretty big fan of previous books by Clare Mackintosh so I was very excited for a new release! Vicki Willis,
I really wanted to like this one。 I thought the idea of it was good and the setting was VERY good, but I just couldn't get into it。 I didn't really like or connect with the characters。 I thought the opening scene was the 2 detectives was hysterical, but it didn't continue that way for me。 The setting was the best part of the book。 I have never been there, but could really visualize the lake and village。 The story was too slow and by the end I didn't really care who did what。 I was just happy it I really wanted to like this one。 I thought the idea of it was good and the setting was VERY good, but I just couldn't get into it。 I didn't really like or connect with the characters。 I thought the opening scene was the 2 detectives was hysterical, but it didn't continue that way for me。 The setting was the best part of the book。 I have never been there, but could really visualize the lake and village。 The story was too slow and by the end I didn't really care who did what。 I was just happy it was over。 Lots of people loved this one though so be sure to check out some reviews with an opposite opinion。 I would also try another book by this author。 。。。more
Devin,
I can’t say this was great (3。5 rating more than 4,) but there were enough highs throughout that I’ll likely come back for the next book。Good twists & turns that I honestly enjoyed as they were revealed。 The ending… I can’t decide。 Good? Unexpected? Frustrating? All of the above。
Patricia,
Exceptionally slow, boring and too many characters。 Disappointed in this novel by bestselling author Mackintosh because I've enjoyed other books of hers。 DNF at 112。 Exceptionally slow, boring and too many characters。 Disappointed in this novel by bestselling author Mackintosh because I've enjoyed other books of hers。 DNF at 112。 。。。more

Twist and turns until the very end。Great characters, very interesting setting and a devious plot that keeps on going。 Great read 。 I thought the book was running long, how did I not know it wasn't done yet! Mandy,
So many narrators。 So much back and forth in the timeline。 While I didn’t love the confusion - I didn’t appreciate the different perspectives of the same interactions。Part way through I’d decided I was cheering for the murderer。I never really got the point of the side story’s of Leo’s ex-wife and kid, but was satisfied with how it wrapped up。Felt like a lot was left unclear with the Caleb situation。I can’t decide if I love the ending or not。
Sarah Cetra,
3。5 starsOkay definitely did not need to be this long, and holy crap were some of these people idiots, but it was a solid thriller overall。 If you need a pretty engaging police procedural, this might be up your alley, but it’s nothing new。
Kim,
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader's copy of this publication。This is one of those books that can't be set aside for long periods of time。 Exciting plot lines and great descriptions。 I really felt like I was a neighbor in the storyline looking out my window。 Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader's copy of this publication。This is one of those books that can't be set aside for long periods of time。 Exciting plot lines and great descriptions。 I really felt like I was a neighbor in the storyline looking out my window。 。。。more
Amy,
I did not care for this one。 Too many possible suspects and reasons they could be guilty。 It just got confusing with the long long list of people who could have done the crime。 And the deceased was a very horrible human being, almost not even believable。 This got very boring as each suspect was interrogated。 A slight twist in the end which was unlikely as well。 I’ll pass on this one。

Jamie Lindemulder,
This book flips between different POV's and different times。 Not my favorite thing。 I swear authors do that to intentionally confuse their readers。Despite that, the book is really good。 It kind of had "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie vibes。 Every single person in this book had a reason for killing Rhys。 He's a pervert, rapist, terrible businessman, thief, etc。 I never would have guessed the killer in a million years though。 This book flips between different POV's and different times。 Not my favorite thing。 I swear authors do that to intentionally confuse their readers。Despite that, the book is really good。 It kind of had "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie vibes。 Every single person in this book had a reason for killing Rhys。 He's a pervert, rapist, terrible businessman, thief, etc。 I never would have guessed the killer in a million years though。 。。。more

Very good mystery story about a murder victim who has quite a number of people who would want him dead。 And when the murderer is exposed, well let's just say it was still a surprise。 I would definitely recommend this book。Amazon description: At midnight, one of them is dead。 By morning, all of them are suspects。It's the party to end all parties。。。。but not everyone is here to celebrate。On New Year's Eve, Rhys Lloyd has a house full of guests。 His vacation homes on Mirror Lake are a success, and h Very good mystery story about a murder victim who has quite a number of people who would want him dead。 And when the murderer is exposed, well let's just say it was still a surprise。 I would definitely recommend this book。Amazon description: At midnight, one of them is dead。 By morning, all of them are suspects。It's the party to end all parties。。。。but not everyone is here to celebrate。On New Year's Eve, Rhys Lloyd has a house full of guests。 His vacation homes on Mirror Lake are a success, and he's generously invited the village to drink champagne with their wealthy new neighbors。But by midnight, Rhys will be floating dead in the freezing waters of the lake。On New Year's Day, Ffion Morgan has a village full of suspects。 The tiny community is her home, so the suspects are her neighbors, friends and family—and Ffion has her own secrets to protect。With a lie uncovered at every turn, soon the question isn't who wanted Rhys dead。。。but who finally killed him。In a village with this many secrets, murder is just the beginning。 。。。more

Elizabeth MacDougall,
This was a true murder mystery, who done it。 Lots of twists that kept you guessing until the end。
Rachel Jenney,
4/4。5 it’s a slow burn murder mystery with A LOT of characters。 It took me awhile to get into it and it kinda dragged at times but ultimately I liked how it all came together。 I liked how scenes were repeated from different characters perspectives and how the ending had multiple layers。

Amy M。 Mize,
BOTM November Add-On: I had a hard time getting into this book, but I understand why some readers are enjoying it。 The victim is loathsome, and it is interesting to see how many people at The Shore have motivation to kill him。 The lead detective, Leo, is likable and will make a good lead character in the series。 The story felt messy and overworked to me, though。

Solid winter mystery! Definitely wouldn’t read if you’re not a fan of multiple perspectives/storytellers…but I definitely am, so it worked。
